Ecosia.org: Legit? Virus? Safe? All the answers to the scary search suggestions are here!

Ecosia.org is a legitimate German company that uses search results to generate revenue via ads, they have planted over 9M+ trees with the help of their 5.5 Million users. Ecosia, like chrome, Firefox and internet explorer is a search engine, but Ecosia uses the revenue from the ads to plant trees. They are partnered with Eden Projects, an amazing non-profit that has planted millions of trees. The reason people have been concerned that Ecosia is a virus, is because when people download the Ecosia extension for Chrome, and then scan for malware with Malware bytes (or other programs) Ecosia shows up as a “possible virus” or “potentially unwanted program”.  Many malware programs infect computers via download, so when the anti-malware program finds Ecosia, it lets users know, the program does differentiate legitimate software from malware, but for certainty and safety it lets users know that the Ecosia extension was downloaded to their computer. So rest assured, Ecosia is a genuine company that was founded in 2009 with the mission to plant 1 billion trees, downloading the app or using the chrome extension will not harm your computer in any way, but its always a good idea to scan your computer for malware after downloading anything on the internet.
